In The Same Frame is an act of rebellion Indelibly captured in polaroid, conveying the dichotomy of loving and living between two worlds. Born and raised in Britain with a family and culture migrated from India.
This work is a series of polaroids that secretly situates Us and Them together. Us the Indian, Them the White or Non Indian in the Same Frame at the Same time. This is a deeply personal work featuring the artist’s Indian father and their white British boyfriend.
6 Polaroid Images
Each feature my father in the foreground
And my boyfriend in the background
James
They have never met
They never do
My father doesn’t know James is there, with us
Sure we are found out, James reseeds to the shadows
My father’s face grows taking over the frame
I attempt to capture both in good light
But the limits of the medium are telling of the tension
